Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below some frequently asked questions about the pub.

Yes well behaved dogs are welcome, all our staff are dog owners and David had working Springer Spaniel gundogs until recently.

We do please ask that dogs keep their paws on the floor though (unless you brought a dog blanket) and are not too noisy, we must remember that not everyone is a dog lover …

Yes accompanied children with well behaved parents are welcome, we do require younger or boisterous children to be constantly supervised please, and remember that some customers are having a night out away from their kiddies.

We offer a comprehensive range of basket meals on Friday and Saturday between 6pm and 8.30pm. Please see the menu –  and when available we offer fresh fish and chips with mushy peas – do check first, not available every week. We also have a range of Cornish Pasties from the Proper Cornish Pasty Company, which we bake on the premises, these are readily available any time we are open. We can package these for takeaway for a small fee for the boxes and bags.

We used to, in fact we were usually fully booked every night, and during the Covid 19 Pandemic we realised that the pub we bought in 1990 had in fact morphed into a restaurant. So we outed all the dining tables, installed socialising tables for drinks and introduced casual dining. We are now a meeting spot for locals and holidaymakers alike, and enjoy the experience much more. We hope you will. We also raise a tidy sum for charity each year with the generous support of our locals.

Sorry no. On Sundays we just have our range of pasties and sausage rolls, and offer an oasis of peace and tranquility from 12 noon until 8.30pm.

No we don’t take table bookings any more – just turn up and grab a table. On really busy periods – usually 6pm to 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays – there might be a brief wait for a table but we usually fit everyone in. (Larger parties might find that they need to split up).

We have a visiting pizza specialist chef who brings his ovens and sets up in our kitchen around once a month. You deal directly with them so need cash for that one. Usually on a Sunday evening, see the website for advance details, and you can reserve a slot for these between 5pm and 8pm-is if you wish, just ring or email us. Or just turn up and order.

Yes, we have free wifi and no fuss login.

Yes, most credit and debit cards – not AMEX or Diners Club, and cash too which we prefer, and really appreciate for smaller purchases please.

Yes. David and Marilyn bought the pub in 1990 and have a very hands-on operation, with David running the kitchen. We also boast a small number of loyal staff, all local and most long-serving – Janet has been with us since the start and Sharon our bar manager not long afterwards.

Yes, except when we have a league game on some Sunday evenings. Boules are available to borrow at the bar. Please note that young children must be supervised.

Yes, to the rear of the property up the drive at the side of the pub.
